Coreid Bug - Acanthocephala terminalis

Coreid Bug - Acanthocephala terminalis
Chattahoochee Nat'l Rec Area, Medlock Bridge, Georgia, USA
August 24, 2003

Moved
Moved from Acanthocephala. ID´d by using species characters on info pages for Acanthocephala spp.

This is Acanthocephala (terminalis?)
This is certainly genus Acanthocephala, probably A. terminalis. ID references are: Slater, How to Know the True Bugs (Wm. C. Brown, 1978), page 58, figure 88. Also Arnett and Jacques, Simon and Schuster's Guide to Insects (1981), plate 60. Length is given as up to 22 mm. A. femorata is similar, but larger, (to 28 mm) the male has bigger femora. Female looks, according to the illustration in Arnett, American Insects, 2nd ed. (p. 254, fig 20.18 and 20.19) rather like A. terminalis. Web Links: So I'd say A. terminalis, but I'm happy to get a probable genus in true bugs.
