I really like the lighting here, but the specular reflections are driving me nuts as they can be a bit misleading.

Yikes...
Guess I was in a hurry and overlooked the description. I just updated both descriptions, and replaced this image with one containing an overview map.
The other photo is a retrolateral view of the left
palpus
. Sometimes referred to as "the boxing gloves".
In adult male spiders the palps are modified into secondary genitalia used during copulatory sperm transfer. It's also the single most important body part for use in obtaining a positive identification of most adult male spiders.
This photo is a closer view of same, showing additional detail of the embolus and terminal rami.

if I had the terms correct. These are ventral aspect, not retrolateral as I described. If I rolled the palp to the left 90deg., that would be a retrolateral view. Sorry for any confusion.
