The neck appears to have
a prominent white collar; I haven't noticed that in other specimens.

A white patch on top of the head of some specimens used to be considered a feature of Desmia maculalis but Bob Patterson reports here that it's not a reliable characteristic (according to Brian Scholtens) in distinguishing between funeralis and maculalis, so I think we'll have to lump the two species together at BugGuide.
