syrphid fly - Eristalis transversa - Female
Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
May 12, 2005
All these Eristalis flies are similar, any help on this and the next few greatly appreciated.

E. transversa
The combination of yellow scutellum and bicolored thorax (gray front half, black rear half) is diagnostic. The scutellum is usually bright yellow (at least in males; it may be duller yellow in some females such as this one). See other photos in Guide.
