flower-loving fly - Apiocera - Female
Deep Springs Valley; day sweep at spring; N37°16.751 W118°01.452, Inyo County, California, USA
July 21, 2007
Size: 1.5 cm
These large, rare flies are extemely fast. They were numerous at the spring, but it seemed I could only net ones that were stuck in the mud.
I had permission to collect at Deep Springs via Jim Hayden.
Image taken using Dr. Andy Deans's EntoVision imaging system at the NC State Insect Museum.
