Beetle Pest - Anthrenus verbasci - Anthrenus verbasci
my kitchen, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
March 17, 2007
Size: 2 - 3 mm
This tiny beetle invades our kitchen en masse each March, and promptly dies on our kitchen floor. Anyone know it's identity? Or it's ecology (beyond our kitchen)?

I doubt it invades.
I think you must have a population of them in the house, possibly infesting something in the kitchen. When the adults emerge, they no doubt fly to your windows, looking for a way out so they can visit flowers and drink some nectar. I bet it you look closely you would find them dead near the windows in other rooms.

Thanks, Jim.
You are correct. We haven't yet found what in our kitchen is hosting their larva.
