One of our largest antlions (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae).

How about
Glenurus? The size and the short thick abdomen seem to fit.

 
Not sure
The creature was found dead then steamed to get spread for a picture. May make "short thick abdomen" less a factor.

Here is the Owlfly, left, and Antlion, right, and you can see the difference. This one I cannot find in any book.
