I found this and several other species of beetles dead but undamaged on a dirt trail in the Miles Standish State Forest.

Geotrupes egeriei
The very convex shape is a give away. Keep looking you have a couple other spp. up there that the guide could use.

 
sooner or later
I'll get more of the scarabs. I photograph all sorts of bugs, but the beetles are my favorite.
