Orgyia vetusta - male - female

Orgyia vetusta - Male Female
Point Mugu State Park, Ventura County, California, USA
March 25, 2008
Had taken a few larvae from the Pt. Mugu population in captivity. The first one to pupate, and then emerge, turned out to be this female. I took her back to the sand dunes, positioned her in a Deerweed (Lotus scoparius), and waited whether her feromones would attract any males.
I didn't wait long, and they came fluttering.
Below is a series of photos showing the 'winner' with the plump, wingless female & her empty cocoon, first photo showing arrival.
