Prominent Moth Caterpillar - Schizura leptinoides

Prominent Moth Caterpillar - Schizura leptinoides
Montgomery, New York, USA, Orange County, New York, USA
July 5, 2007
Size: 15 mm
What species?

Schizura leptinoides
It's a good match for the one on page 312 of Wagner's book (1). The Oligocentria semirufescens on page 309 is very similar, but lacks the black patch between the head and first horn.

You nailed it
I knew someone out there had Wagner's book at their disposal. :-)

When I looked at this one my first thought was wishing I had brought his book to work with me. Thanks for correcting the ID on this one Tom.

Oligocentria
It looks like an early instar of a species in the Oligocentria genus. I'm not sure of which species though. When I get home I'll check some more resources if no one else can ID to species.
