6118 - Amblyptilia pica
... is Debbie Matthews probable ID of this moth. If the forewing costa (leading edge) was more visible the ID might have been more certain. The adult moths cause no harm. The larva of course feed on plants, each species usually restricted to one or a few plants of a single plant family (but some are also generalists). This species feeds on Castilleja (Indian Paint Brush) and Geraniums.

studying the images i do agree that this is the ambblyptilia ..and yes we do have geraniums and numerous other plants ..does this moth feed on the angels trumpet?we just started growing one and it seems to attract all types of insects...i even saw a glassey winged sharpshooter for the first time ..i posted the picture on my pbase web site..www.pbase.com/jazzmaster221
thanks for the id

A Plume Moth
There are over 150 species of these moths in North America. This one is not among the 23 mainly eastern species shown on the Plume Moth Plate at MPG. I'm sending a copy of your photo to a specialist in this family to try to get it identified for you.
