Bot/Warble Fly Puparium - Cuterebra

Bot/Warble Fly Puparium - Cuterebra
Nashua, New Hampshire, USA
March 20, 2008
Size: 2cm
A fly puparium found amongst flotsam at the edge of a marsh.
Warble or Bot fly?
Probably from the the muskrats or beavers that live in the marsh.
There are no local horses, so it can't be a horse bot fly, though there are deer (but I don't know if they visit the marsh because it's surrounded by housing, roads and a local community college.)

Bot fly.
Last time I checked, "warblers" were birds:-) I think the term "warble" means the raised lump on the hide of an animal parasitized under its skin by one of the bot flies. Probably a rodent or rabbit bot, but should be interesting to see what emerges!

Left it
I left it were it was so I would have to deal with whatever came out I have enough critters I deal with every day as it is.

As for 'Warbler' flies, it's actually 'Warble'. I made a mistake.
