Beefly - Anthrax

Beefly - Anthrax
Pima County, Arizona, USA
April 10, 2008
Size: 11 mm

Not an ID
but I would guess something in the Villini tribe. Nice photo! One of our experts will help, I hope...

I was thinking
Xenox spc.

ID
This is not Xenox, but Anthrax proper, maybe oedipus or something like that. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks,
that's promising

You may well be right...
I have trouble with the bee flies, as many of them have vaguely similar wing and body patterns. Perhaps you or another contributor can give me some firm criteria for at least getting to the right tribe?
