Has anyone been able to i.d. some of these (such as this one) to species?

Ammophila
This appears to be pictipennis.

I agree.
The vast majority of Ammophila cannot easily be identified from images alone. Even specimens can be a bit problematic. I've just loaned all my specimens to the world authority on the genus, so when I get them back I'm hoping to compare the specimens to some of our images here. That will likely be years from now, and work for only some of the images. Sorry, just the nature of the beast:-)
