Little Black and Yellow Wasp - Pterocheilus

Little Black and Yellow Wasp - Pterocheilus
Desert Hot Springs, Riverside County, California, USA
April 1, 2008
Size: around 10 mm

A female
Red and black antennae make this little jewel especially elegant.
Color seem to vary regardless of gender, since another female (viewed from side) is ivory white rather than creamy yellow like this one.
General habitus and oval tegulae suggest Pterocheilus at a broad sense, but of course, special mouthparts are not visible from this angle.
