On Pieris japonica.
Is it normal for this species to have such a huge tongue?

Yes, yes.
Yes, a honeybee worker. The "tongue" is actually a fusion of elongated mouthparts and it is fairly long, but nothing like some of the Euglossa orchid bees:-)
