This scary looking beast is actually a Horse Stomach Bot fly. The spines on the body and the two oral hooks are for attachment to the mucosa of the non-glandular stomach. Surprisingly many feel that the presence of the larva in the stomach cause no problems. The spines indicate that this is a third stage instar and would have likely moved out the colon to drop to the ground and pupate.
