Carrizo Beetles - Paracotalpa ursina

Carrizo Beetles - Paracotalpa ursina
Carrizo Plain National Monument, San Luis Obispo County, California, USA
April 8, 2007
An abundant beetle in Carrizo Plain. Makes at least short flights with wings clattering. Maybe 10-times bigger than a ladybug.

That's a new one on me...
Truly amazing...

That would be a huge size range
since the majority of ladybeetle species are minute compared to the large black-on-orange ones most people are familiar with. I assume you were thinking of the large ones as well :-)

Excellent images (and handsome beetles) by the way!
