Mating Phantoms - Bittacomorpha clavipes - male - female

Mating Phantoms - Bittacomorpha clavipes - Male Female
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
May 17, 2005
Near my house is what was once a pond, but it has now mostly filled in. It still has cattails everywhere, and small areas with an inch or so of water. It also has a very small stream running through it. Each Spring without fail there are these attractive Phantom Craneflies there. They are sometimes challenging to photograph. I would love to photograph one in flight!

Anyhow this year was the first time I saw a joined pair.

Interesting
That's neat! And thanks for the picture, I had seen a couple of these 'ghosting' around lately but while I knew they must be craneflies I didn't know what they were called.
