Fast moving when disturbed, elusive and aggressive, appears to have biting mouth parts, reacts adversely to camera flash, squirms and appears to bite when touched. Found indoors on countertop early evening in full light. Silverfish infrequently seen also, but this doesn't appear to be related. I've never seen one of these before and would appreciate identification.

Bitten!
I was reading a book in bed last night, minding my own business, when I felt a sharp pain in my leg. I found this critter at the scene of the crime. It's about half an inch long and matches your description (angry, likes to bite whatever touches it).

I live in San Mateo, California.

Moved
Moved from Snakeflies.

larva of:
Snakefly - rarely observed!

Snakefly larva
Thank you. I see that the snakefly eats aphids and small caterpillars and is our friend - good.

Larva
This is a larva of something...a beetle I think. I cropped your image so we could see a larger version. I'm certain someone here will recognize this right off, but perhaps not until tomorrow.
