Do the apparently compressed ventrites on the beetle on the right signify male gender?

???
I could find no reference to the compressed ventrites in the literature I checked (American Beetles, Histeridae of Canada, Histeroidea of Japan). I have not looked at the Handbook of Zoology as I have not seen this yet. So, your question remains unanswered. Sorry.

I may have time to look at some specimens in the upcoming weeks.

Thanks
for checking, Jeff.
