Arizona Desert Hairy Scorpion - Hadrurus arizonensis - female

Arizona Desert Hairy Scorpion - Hadrurus arizonensis - Female
Arizona, USA
January 13, 2008
An adult female Arizona Desert Hairy Scorpion (Hadrurus arizonensis) in comparison to my hand. These are among the largest scorpions in North America. Although they are not dangerously venomous, their stings can still be quite painful. This particular individual had become quite docile after being in captivity for some time. I still do not recommend handling scorpions in this manner, however.
