Wasp Family?

Wasp Family?
Great Falls, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
April 17, 2008
I've been browsing through photos, trying to figure out what this is, but haven't found anything quite like it. I notice it had odd little structures at the base of its antennae. Is it a sawfly? I'm not really familiar with them.

Size estimate?
Do you know approximately how big this bug was?

I would favor one of the parasitic wasps, but let's see what the experts say. I think that the constriction I see at the base of the abdomen would go against the sawflies...

It was
around housefly length. Maybe 3/8ths to 1/2 an inch?

Ichneumonidae.
Yes, the family really 'is' that diverse:-)

Wow.
Thanks! Are there distinguishing features on this one that let you know that?
