Light-Colored Scorpion - Paruroctonus silvestrii

Light-Colored Scorpion - Paruroctonus silvestrii
Mount Tamalpais, Marin County, California, USA
April 22, 2008
Size: 5cm
I found this scorpion under a rock, and I'm pretty sure it's not the California Forest Scorpion, the species I normally find. Is it Paruroctonus silvestrii?

(Handling scorpions is not recommended)

Re: yup
Thanks, Mike.

oh hey
have you found any other scorpions besides U.mordax, P.silvestrii, and the tiny Serradigitus gertschi striatus over that way?

Scorpions...
Actually I've only found U. mordax and P. silvestrii around here. Until I found this scorpion I thought only California Forest Scorpions lived in Marin County, and I used to keep them and Emperors as pets several years ago. Until recently I never went out looking for arthropods intentionally, though, and never brought a camera with me even if I did find anything interesting. Even now my invertebrate finds are largely the products of my herping adventures (looking for snakes in particular), but over the past year or so I've really begun enjoying the insects/arachnids/myriapods I find while flipping rocks and logs.

I'm not sure how many species of scorpions live around here, but at least now I can put a check next to two of them on the list.

not a problem, ive been enjoy
