Stilt Bug ot Thrips??? - Zelus luridus

Stilt Bug ot Thrips??? - Zelus luridus
Tracya Landing, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
April 23, 2008
Spotted these bugs on a Jack-In-The Pulpit plant along a forest path near the Chesapeake Bay. The colorful one appeared to be sucking the life out of the other one. Several hours later I returned to find the darker bugs dead body on the same leaf. I peaked into the "pulpit" and took a picture of what I thought was a spider. Later when I zoomed in, I could see it was the same colorful bug lurking for its next victim.

Does anyone have any idea what this is? My closest guess is either some kind of stilt bug although it was located quite some distance from a tiny stream.

Yes; and prey is....
Yes, this is a nymph of Zelus luridus, and the prey insect is a small sawfly (Tenthredinidae).
