Shield Bug?

Shield Bug?
Lake County, Illinois, USA
April 25, 2008
Size: Body: approx. 1"
After a very long cold winter in northeastern Illinois, we had a few warm days. I was so surprised to see this very large bug on the side window of our car. I think it's a shield bug, but do you know the species? In the past, I've only seen a few smaller, darker brown shield bugs around here. So I'm very curious about this individual and would really like to know the species. Also, what could the cream-colored dot be?

(I looked through some images & thought maybe it could be a "spined soldier"?)

I would go with,,,
Leaffooted Bug Acanthocephala terminalis

To Ron M:
Wow! thanks so much for the ID!

Leaf-footed Bug
of some kind. You can compare it with other images here. Your specimen also has a tachinid fly egg on it. Here is another leaffooted bug with a tachinid fly egg.

To Lynette Schimming
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond--and to find the other image with the tachinid fly on it. It's appreciated! I moved it to the appropriate place in the guide.
