Small Milkweed Bug -
Oncopeltus fasciatus
Richmond County, North Carolina, USA
April 27, 2008
Size: ~2cm
Feasting on a burning bush. I couldn't tell if it was drinking nectar but this is what all but the catepillars were seen to be doing. MOTO

I'm new at naming bugs. When I read through the directory and found my bug I was under the impressions that Small Milkweed Bug was its name. You are correct that this guy is big. I really need to measure it to give the correct length. MOTO

Not size- species
There's another species with the common name Large Milkweed Bug,
Oncopeltus fasciatus
. They tend to be larger then the Small Milkweed Bug, which is where the common name comes from. The markings are quite different.
