Scolopendra heros -- giant redheaded centipede - Scolopendra heros
Near Graford, Johnson's Peak on Possum Kingdom Lake in Palo Pinto County, Texas, USA
April 26, 2008
Size: About 9" long.
We saw this centipede on our way up Johnson's Peak. It was moving very fast and went under a rock. We also saw one a couple of years ago at Lake Texoma on the Texas/Oklahoma border. It seems to like rocky, forested wildlands in Texas.
