Could this be -
the infamous A. stephencolberti?? :) Given the location on a beach and the difficulties with this genus - it is possible! How did we get this one to species, if I may ask?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aptostichus_stephencolberti

It ID'd as A. simus by Dr. Ma
It ID'd as A. simus by Dr. Martin Ramirez who had done work at the same site in 1995(when he also found A. simus there).

As far as I know A. stephencolberti is only found in Northern California, just because something comes from a beach in California is no reason to assume that it is a well publicized species.

Ahh -
oh well - I tried. Please note :) in my post - don't take it too seriously. The paper by Bond and Stockman describes the distribution of stephencolberti as "Coastal beaches of Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Mateo and San Francisco counties". So, Central California - I need to look in my own backyard! :)
