owlet moth? - Lycia ursaria

owlet moth? - Lycia ursaria
Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick, Canada
April 27, 2008
Size: 3 cm
I just scanned 120 pages of owlet moths, then skipped to the end: 194 pages! I had to give up to go home.

I think this might be an owlet, based on shape and size. It was attracted to my porch light, and remained beside it for 2 days. This is a telephoto daylight image.

ID
I'm not familiar with NE moths, but this might be Lycia ursaria in the Geometridae.

Stout Spanworm Moth?
Yes, it could be a Stout Spanworm Moth, Lycia ursaria. I'll let more experience folks weigh in. I had examined the plates in Covell and come up with Canadian Melanolophia (Melanolophia canadaria), which is the closest I could get to an id, but I was thrown by the size and the catacoline appearance of this moth.
