I am very sorry but I failed to include an additional image that might have cleared up the banding issue. I initially noticed the 3rd (and possibly 4th) band in this image but didn't think this information would be diagnostic.

The overall quality of this image didn't merit posting because I had better images of this specimen. I try to limit the number of images of any single specimen. Because of my amateur ranking, I am not always sure of which images to submit.

All that being said, is it possible for Parancistrocerus pedestris to have orange markings or are we still looking at a different species?

Thanks for this additional image which is actually the most important one in terms of diagnostic characters! It shows the well developed ridge (carina) in front of the lateral yellow spots on tergum 1, which excludes P. pedestris. I am now most inlined to call this P. salcularis. This species and probably several others can have more orange markings in the south. Nice job: the first live image of this species for Bugguide! My advice: Please always include additional images - it makes identification a lot easier! Redundant images can always be frassed later.

You have been most helpful with this and my other wasps today. I also want to mention that we have a good ID because you took the extra time to explain why you first thought it might be Stenodynerus histrionalis rather than simply calling it that.
