Black and white caterpillar - Xanthopastis timais

Black and white caterpillar - Xanthopastis timais
Weir, Choctaw County, Mississippi, USA
May 6, 2008
Size: 1-1/2 inch or so
Found in yard in early morning about 60 degrees on Lily-of-the-Valley or Snowdrops foliage in shade of an oak tree with minimal leaf litter, nearby pond. Do not like wild fern foliage that is next to this foliage. They seem to suck the moisture from the foliage instead of chewing it. Gobs(50ish)of these were on of 1 clump of foliage.

Moved to guide
- a nice group shot and first Mississippi image for us. I'm not sure of the plant though it's definitely not Lily-of-the Valley - it appears to be something in the lily family, though, which is right for this species.

Thanks
Thanks for identifying the caterpillar. What a beautiful moth it will be. These guys were everywhere, so I'm sure the forest will be full of beautiful Spanish moths.
