Grasshopper, missing a leg? - Arphia sulphurea - male

Grasshopper, missing a leg? - Arphia sulphurea - Male
Umstead Park, Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, USA
May 24, 2005
This one appears to be missing a leg, didn't notice until I looked at the photo. Species?

Moved
Moved from Arphia.

Arphia sp.
Yes, this unfortunate specimen is missing its right hind leg, but grasshoppers are built to shed them when under attack, or if molting goes awry. This is probably Arphia sulphurea, or a related species.

Arphia sulphurea
Note the constriction just in front of the eyes. The other similar species in NC (Arphia granulata) lacks this.

Arphia sulphurea
Just thought I'd officially agree with Ed here. Looks like A. sulphurea.
