Eight-spotted Forester - Alypia octomaculata

Eight-spotted Forester - Alypia octomaculata
American Tobacco Trail at Scott King Rd, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
May 23, 2005
This very fresh, bright, moth had been feeding on privet, Ligustrum species. It was very flighty while feeding. There was a brief period of cloudiness, and it stopped to bask, finally allowing me to approach closely. The blue marks are said to be seen only when the moth is fresh. (1)
