Size: 15-28 mm
Melittia gloriosa (Sesiidae) is the largest and most colorful of the melon (Cucurbita) borers found in the western United States. The larvae are known to attack the large fleshy cucurbit tubers that are found underground. This specimen was collected by William Taft using a graperoot borer pheromone.
