black and red ant - Dolichoderus plagiatus
Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
May 10, 2008
Size: 3.5mm

Dolichoderus plagiatus
The damaged part of the gaster looks like it might have had some yellow on it. Thanks for another id.

Dolichoderus plagiatus - worker
Although this one worker has almost no yellow on the basis of her gaster, unlike the specimen you submitted last year, there is no other possibility left.
There is some individual variation in the extent of these yellow spots. Moreover, the 1rst urotergite of this specimen is damaged.
