I would place this with H. eumenes, but I'll admit I'm far from certain with these flies.

Range
My experience is that this is a very widespread, abundant fly.

 
Perhaps this is eumenes,
also this one appears to be a male with the eyes more closely together than in the female.
It would be informative, though, to see a key.
By the way, unrelated to this, were you able to obtain the 1963 Marston revision of the Albofasciatus group from Kansas State?

No, I only have the Anthrax other than the albofasciatus group. I haven't yet tried to acquire it. Does Kansas St have copies still?

They do have
photo copies, which is what I have, and they're very helpful.
