Beetle? - Anthrenus fuscus
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
May 14, 2008
Size: 1 1/3 mm (maybe)
I found this indoors this afternoon, sitting on the windowsill. I've never seen this beetle before. If it is a beetle? Sorry for the not so good photo.

No apologies necessary for the image. The scaly pattern indeed indicates something in the Dermestidae family. The adult beetles are not an issue, but the larvae are another matter. They feed on all manner of dried animal products, including wool, furs, silks, dry pet food, taxidermy mounts....even accumulated shed hair of pets and people. so, look for items the larvae might like, and discard whatever is infested. Store woolens, furs, silks in a cedar chest. Store foodstuffs in glass or metal containers with tight-fitting lids. End of story, no chemicals or PCOs needed:-)
