Katydid - Scudderia furcata - male - female

Katydid - Scudderia furcata - Male Female
Deville, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, USA
October 13, 2007
Is enough of the male visible to determine species?

I took these pictures a while back but hadn't posted them because I wasn't sure if they could be identified to species. Please feel free to frass if pictures don't provide enough information.

Not really.
Can't readily identify the species, but please don't frass! This is a great series showing the newly-transfered spermatophore still clinging to the abdomen of the female after mating. Very educational:-) When I saw this the first time, I thought something was horribly wrong with the female!

Maybe next time :(
When I took these, I didn't know enough to focus on the male genitalia. It was only after trying to determine species myself that I realized the importance.

I will leave these in Family level...
