Size: 1/2 inch or so.
I found this beetle under a rotting log in the woods by our house. its small, maybe 1/2 inch or so long. it looks like a stag beetle to me. Please correct me if im wrong though.

D. brevis, minor male
This is a minor male of D. brevis. The beetle is overall much less elongate than D. parallelus, has a very narrow clypeus, and the mandibles have two small internal teeth. Only male majors (big, big males) of this species are smooth.
