About ID requests

Perhaps this has already been asked, but: if I know what order/family/genus something belongs in, should I still post it to the general ID Request area?

I think it depends...
on how soon you'd like a response, and maybe also on what type of bug it is. A lot of experts check ID request regularly--I often get bees, ants, leafhoppers, and certain beetles I submit ID'd within a day; on the other hand, I've noticed that springtails sit around in ID Request for weeks without any comments, but when I move them to 'Collembola,' Frans Janssens invariably responds within a day. What I generally do is submit all my images to ID Request, but then move them to the most specific location I'm sure about if no one responds within several days. After that it could be weeks or months before someone comes across it and IDs it further.

It's up to you
but if you KNOW order, family or genus, I think you should post it there.
