Syrphid, genus Sphegina!
Hello Tom,
This is a female syrphid in the genus Sphegina.
Characteristic are the face, the petiolate abdomen and its wing venation. In the nearctic this genus contains 25 species, so I don't know which one of those it might be!
Greetings,
Gerard Pennards

Thanks Gerard, that's a new genus for the guide. I'm glad you know flies, because there are too many for me.
