Rove Beetle - Sepedophilus

Rove Beetle - Sepedophilus
Horner Park, Richmond Hill (N43º52'21.4"W079º24'42.5"elev.192m), York Region, Ontario, Canada
May 20, 2008
Size: 5 mm
A Tachyporinid rove found in the soft, rotting wood of a large felled Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea). I apologize for the image quality, but this beetle was completely uncooperative and did not once pause from darting around while I attempted to photograph it. I believe it's a Sepedophilus.

Cool.
It would be interesting to raise staph larvae, if these are indeed what you have. I've only done it once, a long time back, when I found a mid-instar larva and reared it to adult.

I agree on ID
That's what it looks like to me. They are speedy and rarely pose for a photo. I'm attempting to rear a clutch of larvae that I suspect are of this genus. They appeared in a container in which I had two adults.
