Marbled Treehopper - Ophiderma

Marbled Treehopper - Ophiderma
Rancocas Woods, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
May 24, 2008
Size: Maybe around 4.5 mm?
I went back and photographed an adult to help with the ID of these nymphs. Maybe something like Carynota marmorata (Marbled Treehopper) or Genus Cyrtolobus?

Definitely Ophiderma
There are several misplaced photos of Ophiderma nymphs under Carynota that I need to deal with eventually. Carynota is more robust/larger than Ophiderma, and the nymphs resemble other telamonines in size, and the flattened shape of the abdomen. As for the species, I can't tell if the adult is a male or a female, but the smaller size makes me think male O. definita.

my 2 centavos
this bug stands out on this page and looks like it belongs elsewhere... not that i have a clue where, but the Ophiderma neighborhood seems to be a better home for it
__________
today i took a first close look at this family, in hopes i'd be able to help sorting the pile out a bit; bottomline, how on earth do people tell them apart, even as much as subfamily in many cases? i'm in complete awe. my hat goes off for those who can.
nightmare of a group, however amazing they look.
one lesson learned is, it is the wing that matters.

Maybe
I wonder if the ID of the nymphs could change. I never got a comment after I added the adult.

We don't know who or how
people have been contacting Dr Hamilton these days. Maybe you could just email him a question.? His email is on his homepage.
