Cerambycid pupa
Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
May 17, 2008
Size: 18mm
In addition, we found this pupa. Looks like some Egyptian god. Don't know if it was related to the larva. Unfortunately it failed to thrive.

The Egyptians
were quite impressed with the metamorphosis of beetles. It has been said that mumification was an attempt to emulate pupation. They never got it quite right though. Eclosure eluded them completely.
I would not be surprised if the headdress of Egyptian nobility was a stylistic representation of the pupa.
