Pretty fly for a pink guy (or girl) - Leptogaster

Pretty fly for a pink guy (or girl) - Leptogaster
Larimer County, Colorado, USA
May 26, 2005
Biger than a mosquito, and I caught hints of pink on its wings even at a distance.

Skinny robber
Wonderful shot. There are several Leptogaster out west in this section of the Rockies, including L. coloradensis, arenicola, hirtipes. This looks fairly distinctive but I don't have western keys.

Asilidae, subfamily Leptogastrinae
Hello Scott,
This is a member of the robber fly family, so Asilidae.
This one belongs to the subfamily Leptogastrinae, and probably even to the genus Leptogaster!
Greetings,
Gerard Pennards
