I feel pretty sure this is an Argiope but am unsure as to which one specifically. It did not have any yellow color anywhere as far as I could see.

Looks to me like an immature Argiope aurantia. I've observed these in the wild quite a lot, and this is exactly how they look until they start to gain their adult coloration in later molts.
