Fire-colored Beetle - Pedilus elegans - male

Fire-colored Beetle - Pedilus elegans - Male
Richmond Hill (N43º52'20"W079º24'40"), York Region, Ontario, Canada
May 29, 2008
Size: 6 mm
Found this on my shirt while I was outside. The guide has many images of red-collared Pedilus with orangish elytral apices, but this one seems to be different in being all-black except for the apices. I wonder how much variation these beetles can have.

Pedilus elegans (Hentz)
Yes, this is an adult male of P. elegans (Hentz). Many species of Pedilus are quite color-variable.

Thanks
Thanks for confirming!

Moved
Moved from Pedilus.

Pedilus elegans (Hentz, 1830), male
the Downie & Arnett, 1996:1196 key allows to exclude other spp.

Exactly what I thought
I was comparing this specimen to those at the UoG collection just a few days ago.
