Velvet Ant - Pseudomethoca - female

Velvet Ant - Pseudomethoca - Female
Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA
May 28, 2005

great photo
This is an excellent picture! It is actually a Pseudomethoca sp. female though. You can tell by the shape of the thorax and by the first "abdominal" segment. In the genus Pseudomethoca, the first segment is broadly connected to the second, without forming a node. This could possibly be Ps. simillima, but it is nearly impossible to recognize species without a microscope.

Thanks
I don't know what to look for in these Velvet Ants, so I appreciate the help.
