Ant lion adult - Euptilon ornatum

Ant lion adult - Euptilon ornatum
Williamson County, Texas, USA
May 31, 2008
Size: > 1 inch
This adult ant lion camped out on the screen of my study window all day today; because of the location and light, and the fact that the old window screens are not planar, I was not able to get an image that was entirely in sharp focus.

Of the images I found on BugGuide, one of _Euptilon ornatum_ looked most like this individual. Size was tough to figure...from the outstretched antennae to the tips of the wings, it was about 2 inches (I think--I didn't lay a ruler on it), but the body--head to tip of abdomen--was considerably less. Where do you measure an adult ant-lion, anyway?

I made many trips out, trying to get a better shot as the light changed (it was in an area of deep shade until late afternoon and would now--6:42 pm--be in sunlight if the leaf shadows didn't keep blowing over it.

Moved
Moved from Euptilon.

#186599 Identification -- Euptilon ornatum
Identification confirmation: Euptilon ornatum (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae).

Thanks!
I think this is going to need a new Guide Page--am posting to that forum, as the only page is for _E. sinuatum_
